“Anisa Ozalp’s work is a rare fusion of traditional artisan mastery and contemporary digital production. Rather than simply moving between old and new methods, she uses each to strengthen the other: digital tools bring precision, planning, and efficiency, while traditional materials preserve tactility and cultural depth.
Her knowledge of ancient art practices reflects this balance, combining Eastern brushwork traditions such as Tezhip and Chinese watercolor with a modern sensibility.
In more complex projects, such as her Ottoman Miniatures, she begins digitally in Procreate, resolving composition, color, and ornamental details before transferring the design onto physical paper for hand painting.
As a Western-born artist shaped by training in the East, she occupies a distinctive cultural position. She carries the technical knowledge of Eastern, Middle Eastern, and Western visual traditions, yet approaches them with the freedom of an innovator rather than the limits of a single inherited rulebook.
She is not only a painter, but also her own animator, crafter, calligrapher, marketer, and digital producer. Her ability to move from 3D character rigging to Chinese brushwork, from handmade objects to digital, gives her rare creative sovereignty. She is difficult to categorize because her practice is not confined to one medium, culture, or production system; it is a self-directed workshop where digital precision and handmade refinement continuously inform one another.”
